The Best of Far North Queensland
Meet our local producers
Our producers are some of the most amazing and hard-working people. Their incredible stories show their dedication to their craft, whether that is for coffee, cooking, or developing ingenious products – be sure to read about each of the amazing families that produce FNQ’s best artisanal goods
Aussie Pepper
Black pepper, the world’s most traded spice, is mostly grown near the equator, with Vietnam being the largest producer. However, in Silkwood, North Queensland, the Campagnolo family runs Australia’s only commercial black pepper farm, established in the early 1980s after Levi and Louie Campagnolo were inspired by pepper cultivation in the Philippines. Now managed by Donna Campagnolo, the farm grows around 5,000 pepper plants and produces up to five tonnes of pepper annually, sold across Australia and overseas under the “Aussie Pepper” brand. The operation is highly labour-intensive, relying on local workers and careful drying processes, with challenges including pests, fungal diseases, and cyclone damage. Despite these difficulties, Donna finds the work rewarding, combining hands-on farming with the business opportunities of a niche, high-quality product.
Brumby Pottery
I have worked and created with clay for many years in North Queensland. I enjoy creating in this medium, generating surfaces that flow in many forms and colour. I love the way the curves glide, its endless forms and the tactile interaction.
I create by wheel, hand-build and sculpt items. My decorative pots are for your eyes to feast on, as you place them in that special spot. There is my functional ware to consume and enjoy each day. The glazes I use lend themselves to change and exploration. So enjoy my little spoon rest, to enhance your time in the kitchen. While we touch and feel the creations, our emotions are enhanced and allow the imagination to develop.
CC’s Place
CC’s Place started out in 2024, aiming to bring great food to locals of the Douglas shire at a reasonable price.
At the end of 2024 we branched out into the world of cookies, and to say we were hooked is an understatement. After significant product testing, the cookies have now been perfected and we are ready to provide you with the tastiest cookies around!
Since then we’ve added a many other products, including taro chips (a personal favourite), a variety of flavoured nuts, jams and lard.
I moved away from a long career teaching to follow my other passion – clearly all things food.
Chilloombachillies
Just south of Cairns, in Far North Queensland, you’ll find the small town of Aloomba, affectionately referred to by some of the local inhabitants as “Chilloomba”. Clearly this is a term we take literally.
The cultivation of multiple varieties of chillies forms the foundation of our pursuits, but this is only part of the challenge. We also produce and distribute a variety of chilli based products, including hot sauces, BBQ rubs, seasonings and oils all made from our very own northern grown packets of pain.
Our newest addition is honey, producing a variety of unique flavors imparted through the diverse range of native riparian and mountainous botanicals. This is achieved through various specifically targeted hive locations throughout the Mulgrave Valley and wider geographic area each offering distinct flavors and characteristics.
Country Freeze
In 2022, Shannon and her partner relocated to beautiful Koah on the Atherton Tablelands where they could enjoy a bit more space and be a little more self-sufficient. While on maternity leave, Shannon’s lime tree produced an abundance of fruit, so Shannon started researching ways to preserve the limes and stumbled upon freeze drying. She soon became obsessed with the idea and shared her findings with her sister-in-law, Latoya who lives nearby in Biboohra.
The two decided they had to give it a go and ordered their first freeze dryer. They soon fell in love with it and couldn’t wait to share it with everyone. Country Freeze embodies the wholesome country life with modern technology and tastebud delights.
As the business has taken off, it has allowed both Shannon and Latoya to quit the jobs they weren’t enjoying and spend more time with their families.
Crater Mountain Coffee
We’re proud to offer the highest quality, most unique Australian-grown coffee on the market today. From our family to yours, we put lots of love and careful attention into each stage of the coffee process.
Our coffee seedlings are grown on the farm from our own seeds and lovingly nurtured in the greenhouse for 12 months before sun hardening and planting in the paddock. We use low till farming practices to minimise the disturbance
to our precious basalt soils and mulch every tree with interrow grass cuttings and pruning waste. Water and nutrients are continuously monitored to ensure the balance between tree growth and superior cherry development. After 3 years,
our trees reward us with their first flowers and 10 months later we harvest.
The hard work and science ratchet up at harvest time! Over a 6 week period only the most prime cherries are picked. They are carefully washed and processed. Some are pulped and left on raised beds to slowly dry in the sun while others are immersed in water and allowed to ferment over days, adding lively intensity to the cup. Each batch is recorded for its weight, picking location, sugar levels and processing technique. This micro-processing ensures that when you buy Crater Mountain Coffee’s, you really are experiencing coffee like no other.

Daintree Estates is proudly made from cocoa grown in the lush, tropical environment of Far North Queensland — where the fertile soils and coastal climate of the Daintree region create cocoa of exceptional quality and flavour. Our cocoa is cultivated by local farming families who have embraced it as a sustainable crop alongside sugarcane, coffee, and tropical fruits. This region’s unique growing conditions produce cocoa with distinct flavour profiles that are unlike anywhere else in the world.
We work closely with our Queensland growers to bring you chocolate that truly reflects the land it comes from — rich, natural, and authentically Australian. Today, Daintree Estates continues to innovate, exploring new ways to use cocoa across food and wellness, while showcasing the incredible potential of locally grown cocoa to chocolate lovers everywhere.
Daintree Tea Chest
It all started 11 years ago, in 2009 when I created Daintree Chai and began selling through a single retailer in the Daintree. I started blending my own chai using whole spice and local black tea as I found mainstream brands lacked the strong chai flavour I desired.
At our little market stall in Port Douglas, meeting with our customers and having great feedback about our chai teas, we started delving into creating other tea blends that the market demanded. In 2011 came the rebranding of the company to The Tea Chest and we created a range of 20 different tea blends.
Our family owned and run tea company is not only our job, it’s our passion. My love of tea began long ago and have always enjoyed sharing a cup with friends and family.
Quite simply, Tea is our passion. We love tea and are committed to sharing our favourite brew with others. You’ll find our blends of a far superior quality compared to standard bagged tea. This is because whole leaf teas produce a fuller, fresher flavour which is unmistakable in both taste and aroma. We do used imported ingredients however we source Australian grown product where ever possible.
Divine Vanilla
Divine Vanilla is a privately owned family run farm established in 2017. Located on sloping hills on the Atherton Tablelands in FNQ, the farm currently grows a little more than 1000 vanilla vines. As strong supporters of Australian Made – Australian Grown we hope the trend for buying local will spread.
Our vigorous vanilla vines are spoilt rotten on a daily basis and in turn thank us by producing an abundance of deliciously creamy and smooth vanilla beans full of flavour.
Other products we make for you includes vanilla infused local honey, vanilla powder, vanilla extract, vanilla syrup, and even vanilla salt! Would you believe that a juicy steak tastes absolutely heavenly when sprinkled with salt enhanced with the exotic taste of vanilla? It’s true!!
Using traditional methods to cure our vanilla beans ensures that our products are of the highest quality with a rich natural vanilla flavour.
We welcome you to our site and hope to tickle your taste buds with our Divine Vanilla.
Emmadell Farms
Hi! We are a young family from the stunning region of Far North Queensland, raising our three children on a small hobby farm.
Surrounded by nature, we care for chickens, cows, ducks, and two beautiful labradors while growing all kinds of tropical fruits. Our passion for natural remedies stems from our belief that nature provides everything we need for a healthy life.
Investing in a freeze dryer was one of our best decisions, allowing us to preserve our harvest for longer and share it with others more easily.
Our goal is to help people embrace nature as their go-to source for supporting their well-being.
Ripsaw Jerky
The story begins with lifelong friends; Ray, an ex-train driver, and father-and-son dairy farmers, Colin and Darrell.
Over 40 years ago Colin and Darrell began experimenting with jerky. Colin has bravely admitted that the first batch they made was so bad that even the dog wouldn’t look at it. They thought it needed to smoke for hours so they heaped on the woodchip. It came out like cement.
A cow and a half later, them good ol’ boys perfected a very tasty marinade that is, to this day, known only by a select few. Retirement was looming, and my better half was developing a twitch at the thought of keeping me occupied. The boys suggested I take up jerky as a profession, and with their blessings, the idea of Ripsaw Jerky was conceived.
Life is good. Nowadays I get to make truly delicious, much-loved jerky. Colin and Darrel get free jerky whenever they want it. The absolute bonus for me is that I don’t have to drive trains anymore and I can go fishing whenever I want.
Scomazzon’s Farm Store
Scomazzon’s fruit farm and store is an institution in the Daintree, owned and operated by a fourth-generation farming family. The property was purchased in the 1930s, but the fruit farm wasn’t started until the late 1970s, when the Scomazzon family went to Malaysia to get fruit seed and stock. Today it’s a mixed tropical fruit farm with rambutans, mangosteens, durians and bananas, and in addition to selling to commercial buyers, they have a farm store stocked with fresh local produce and artisan creations.
Their focus is on sustainable practices, growing and supplying home-grown produce that ‘tastes like it should’. As guests on a Daintree Sensations tour, you’ll visit the farm and see hand harvesting of exotic, tropical fruits, culminating in a delicious taste testing. What you will try is determined by the season, but their bounty is both colourful and plentiful, sure to excite and delight.
Shannonvale Winery
Our winery journey began in 2003 in the heart of Shannonvale, Far North Queensland, when Tony and Trudie Woodall turned a semi-retirement idea into a lifelong passion. After moving from Perth, they combined their love of wine with the region’s incredible tropical fruits to create something truly unique.
What started as a hobby in a local winemaking club soon evolved into a family-run winery, built on creativity, community, and a deep appreciation for local produce. Over the years, we’ve perfected the art of crafting high-quality fruit wines that capture the vibrant flavours of the tropics.
In 2020, during the challenges of the pandemic, our son Laza took the reins, bringing fresh ideas and a shared dedication to the craft. Today, we continue to make wines that celebrate Far North Queensland’s rich character — a reflection of our family’s story, poured into every bottle.
This isn’t just a business—it’s our family’s story, and we’re proud to share it with you, one bottle at a time.
